Sitting on the couch reading random pages from William Saroyan's "Obituaries," trying to draw my energies together into something singular, something focused. I had a fun time with the Mailbox Locator but lately I can hardly stand to think about it. I posted about 750,000 payphone numbers to the Payphone Project after a friend told me she was able to track down a patient who had escaped from a mental hospital using the Internet. The patient was at a payphone and unable to tell where he was, and no other resource but the Internet would have directed them to his location. Maybe it's time to do something more substantive with the random words pages, or with the DICT server I finally got around to setting up. Maybe I should sit down at the piano and finish learning the Well Tempered Clavier. I am much of the way through Book I, and I'd say I can play about half of Book II. But that's a re-creative endeavor, and my decision of late has been to pursue the creative side of things. My piano music page has not been updated in a very long time, but I continue to practice (mostly Bach) and compose piano music by the boatload. I feel directionless. A year ago I decided to make my life my job. I appointed myself president and CEO. Where's the middle management? I am using the hefty "A World of Difference" as my mousepad right now. That 434 page book is a biography of Ed Dorn, a poet of the Black Mountain College who has interested me since I found From Gloucester Out and felt I needed to type out the whole long poem.
